i really loved the story, the style and the music. but since for making perfection critic is needed, i would say that the character illustrations that sometimes appear like cassandra's drawing on the inn are kind of plain and could be a lot more well made if you compare them to the rest of great graphics of the game
Hey there! Thanks for taking the time to write your feedback :) Glad you enjoyed the game! I'm not fully sure where you're stuck on that map but the tower at the coast needs the right timining with the moving platforms to execute the climbing ability. Hope that helps!
I got stuck at shimmering hollows after i fought the crystalite boss its said that some script is missing and closed the game. After i opened the game i came back to fight the whole thing again and after that it says something about errors and closed the game again... can you tell me how to fix this? and also when i click the escape button (in game) it closes the game too.. i knew that this game is long so i woudn't wanna miss opportunity to end it..
first off, sorry for the inconvenience! :( I'm working hard on fixing these issues in the upcoming release. Can you post the error messages? That would be a good starting point for me to help you.
Hey Starlit! i just realized after i fought the boss, the game just actually goes on and i think it is already fixed... haha btw this is the first time i play such great a long game like this! I still haven't finished it though..
Just a heads up that when I tried to escape the fight against the mimic the game crashed, I also encountered a few typos in the English version and in the Cloud temple one sentence entirely in german. Other than that the game is great and I'm having a blast playing.
Thank you so much for your feedback! And I'm relieved that you still get to enjoy the game even with the bug. Working hard on eliminating as much of them in the next release.
Hello, just want to inform you that when I try to battle the Rock Devils--I believe that's what they're called, the creatures in the human crystal cave?--my game'll either crash if I try to escape, or I won't be able to chose fight options after it uses 'Barrier'.
hey, so you were talking about the human crystal cave monsters right? about that, i found it difficult to fight him because he was super strong. but it turned out later that you should hit the crystals that give him power to attack you. make shawn hit the monster and his friends hit the crystals. if that didn’t work then i’m sorry
Oh, no I beat him just fine. I was talking about the Crystal Devils--If I remeber--the one(s) that wanders around when Shawn first destroys the glowing crystals--the cave with the skeleton and chest? The problem I was having, that everytime I tried to escape them, a message would pop up and then the came would crash/close.
i'm having an issue with screen size where it zooms in on one tiny corner, its very annoying because i cant even start playing the game, and i really want to play it, if there is something im doing wrong can someone tell me?
Hey there! Sorry, I haven't heard of this issue before. Maybe it has something to do with your graphics card?
I know that with an Nvidia-card (and probably also with other GPUs), you can change the display settings for single applications and change things like the scaling in the Nvidia System Settings.
Honestly, your game is amazing. I've just recently finished and find myself checking often for updates, and while I typically don't comment much, you surely deserve the praise! I too am interested in creating games, and I aspire for my games to have the same clear passion, love, and care as yours does! I've played many rpg games (as they are my preferred) and yours has firmly rooted itself on the top of my favorites list! It is honestly BEAUTIFUL, both in story and in visuals (which are absolutely stunning, beyond words). I love how you took such care to craft the story from the ground up. That is to say, you didn't directly introduce the obvious, such as the relations of the characters, but more so allowed the player to learn through context. It feels genuine. I think that is a sign of a great creator! :)
Hey there! Thank you so much for your words, your comment made my day after feeling a bit demotivated today :)
And I'm very happy that you found the interactions with the characters genuine, this was a huge goal for me I hoped to achieve with this. Please stick around, I promise there's more of what resonated with you in the upcoming release!
This game was amazing and the graphics/animations were well done. The story line was compelling. I was sad when I finished it. I look forward to seeing the finished product. 10/10 would play again.
Hey ! As a RMXP tryharder dev (you can see my game here : https://bemko-velsa.itch.io/lumen-episode-1-bemko-and-ezechiel), i'm a huge fan of your work. I'm currently playing your game and enjoy it so far. Your mapping and stagging are excellent, and the dialogue are immersive. Work on animation and scripts are impressive as well. I go back to play it, and will do my feedback when it's over.
Really great work, will definitly buy it (or donate) when the full game will be out.
After i used the escape option in battle (wanted to go faster, wasn't a particularly hard fight) i encontered a bug that made the game crash. I didn't had time to printscreen the error shown but was something like "visible object not found".
*spoiler*
I was in the first cave after saving Raphael from the bandits.
*spoiler*
It was very sad because i lost a bunch of progress due to the last time i manually saved. I thought the game had autosaves.
Hey there! Very sorry for the inconvenience :( All these problems should be resolved in the upcoming release. The game does autosave after most cutscenes but not in a regular intervall.
Sorry again! I hope you're not completely demotivated to see the rest of the demo.
Thanks for your answer, sadly it was. I was unsure how frequent the autosaves were and actually wanted to manually save the game after that battle (which is why i wanted to escape so i could quickly save). My heart was too broken to keep playing :(, i will give it another try in the future though.
Hi! played the demo. I really enjoy the story and I'm impressed with the game mech. Very clever way to implement the fourth wall, without feeling too sudden, it blends into the plot. Love to see the full game.
Hi :) Thank you for the feedback! Happy that you enjoyed the demo! I'm working hard on finishing the game. It's also always very fun to think about the dialogue choices for the player and other ways to incorporate that character into the game.
Hello! I was searching for a new game to play and I felt in love with your game! The story looks amazing, I love the ambience, The fourth-wall breaking concept is really cool and well managed! I can't wait to see more and obviously I will buy this game when it's completed ;)
Hey there! Thank you so much for taking your time and writing me a comment :) Glad that you've enjoyed the game! I'm working hard on the upcoming release!
Good Afternoon! I am just stopping by to let you know that Driftwood gaming is going to stream your demo in about 15 or so minutes. If you wanted to pop in that would be awesome! :D https://www.youtube.com/c/DriftwoodGamingMV/live
Hey, starlit. This is hands down, one of the best games i have played on itch.io, if you put this on Steam that would be so cool. Keep up the good work! : )
When I saw that it had "fourth-wall breaking" story, I wrongfully assumed it was ultra-comedic, so I wasn't very interested. But, ultimately, the beauty of the screenshots convinced me to download.
The aforementioned fourth-wall breaking was the biggest surprise, it was done perfectly. It's one of the best examples of breaking the fourth wall I've ever seen. The story, essential for a good RPG, is great. Initially, the intro feels a bit long, I would ask players to go through it anyway (DON'T skip the dialogue!). I personally can't wait to get the full story. The pixels certainly don't hurt it!
The Music is great as well, truly enhancing the storytelling, and bringing out the emotion in everything perfectly. Actually, when I finished the demo's temporary (to be continued) ending, I went and listened again to Aura's Theme and it brought tears to my eyes. It's actually kinda sad throughout, and it just got to me when I listened to that one. Same with replaying the beginning. It's that powerful.
Having said all that, there were a few issues. In terms of bugs; the game crashed sometimes I tried escaping from fights, one item I received had no information, the text wasn't always clear on who is saying it, and there were a few Translation issues. Also personally have a problem with the (admittedly small amount of) profanity here and there, and was uncomfortable with some implied suggestive stuff.
So, from one to ten, I'd give this demo an 8. I'm sure the full game will turn out to be a must-have RPG for any fan of the genre.
P.S: I really wish I could more easily take screenshots though, I don't know if that's possible to add through the RPGMaker engine or not. But if it is, please do!
Hello there! First off, thank you so much for taking the time and writing a comment on your experience with the demo. I'm really happy you connected with Aura's theme. The game's composer Thomas J. Peters has done a stellar job of capturing the emotion. Aura's theme is also one of my favorites.
I'm working hard on a more stable quality for the next release, which is why I'm taking my time testing the current version. I hope you stick around for the next release & thanks again! :)
Ok... how to say this...? Oh yeah! IT'S FREAKING AWESOME!!! I'm working on my RPG on XP and it's giving me headaches... but yours is really great! If that's the demo I really want to see the work done! Looking ahead to playing the full version. Keep it up 'cause it's really good and promising. Btw, if you want to give a look at my demo and give me some advices here it is https://r42003.itch.io/nintendo-quest-demo. Thank you and again, good work!
I love this game. Great story. But I can't get past the house Shawn wakes up in with the Soldiers that captured him. I can't figure out how to get past the gaurds without gettin caugh. Any hints. Cause I think the one guy is random that keeps turning around to look.
Hello! I'm enjoying the demo so far. However, I think that I've encountered a bug: right after I've acquired Glintshard I lost the ability to use magic. The bar with magic resource disappeared and thus, the ability to use any skills except normal attacks and inspect/taunt.
i played the game before and got really far, sadly it seems that i lost my save files but thing is when i downloaded the new update one now and have to see the beginning part, it freezes and doesn't move when this person in a cloak comes out, the game just stops working, i did wait for like ten minutes leaving it alone but still nothing. i am wondering if i did press spacebar to much or to fast, or if the game just likes to take it's time in going to next part.
Hey there! I think you mean the spot after the two guards are chatting, right? You should be able to move the figure with the cloak. I guess it's not that clear that the cutscene ends there.
okay now i feel really stupid, it has been a long time since i played this, i am shocked at myself that i forgot all about what you just said, moving the cloak character. next time i try all the keys to figure things out before i ask something stupid again lol. thank you though for telling me P.S just finished demo again and still love the game, please finish game, would love to keep playing and see the whole game someday.
I just completed the demo and i have a few criticisms. I'm not sure if there was supposed to be jump scares, but there were times that the audio did get a bit loud out of nowhere. Also, I did have a hard time navigating the caves because they were so dark. It was hard for me to see where one wall began and another ended. My suggestion would be to make it a tad bit brighter during those scenes. Other than that, this game was amazing and beautiful. can't wait to see what's next!
Thank you for your comment! Glad you've enjoyed the game :)
Regarding darkness: I wanted to do some brightness calibration like you have it in other games, but RPG Maker XP was a bit restrictive in some terms. I at least have a rudimentary calibration for the time being in the current version.
Not completely done playing the demo yet but so far the game has been amazinggg~! I love the concept of breaking the fourth wall and actually interact with the main character! I'm not sure if this has been asked yet but have you guys considered on having the guardian spirit and Shawn actually fall in love? I just think it would be a really awesome concept
Im currently stuck with my PC which runs 32-bit system, so if youre going to port it into new engine, will it still run on 32-bit system? Or I need 64-bit system for the upcomming chapter?
The game often gets stuck in battle against a frostdevil when it casts barrier.
The frostdevil casts barrier and I can't do anything anymore, the game gets stuck on this spell, the word "Barrier" doesn't disappear and I can't do anything, I have to force close the game with Alt + F4, launch it again, and reload my last save in order to continue so I came to save every time I see a frostdevil because this annoying bug completely breaks the game.
You present this game as "a 4th wall breaking RPG that makes its characters and the world surrounding them aware of the player" but this is not true as Alterna's inhabitants are not aware that someone from another reality interacts with them, you made the player be a guardian spirit, a bodyless entity from ancient tales who talks in Shawn's head, but this is still an inhabitant from Alterna, even if he is bodyless and talks in another inhabitant from the same reality's head, both the guardian spirit and Shawn are inhabitants from the same reality so this is not 4th wall breaking as Alterna's inhabitants are not aware of the player as someone from another reality who interacts with them, this is not 4th wall breaking if they are not aware of the 4th wall, the screen, between them and the player.
Now don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, I like Numina, I just wanted to explain to you that the way you present it is wrong and so suggest to you to correct it accordingly if you want to be fair. ;-)
I understand your argument regarding the charaters but I don't agree at all that it constitues false advertising without even going into the plot but rather what the experience itself.
I didn't say anything that you didn't in your game description so I don't see how I spoiled anything.
I didn't talk about advertising, I just said that the way you present Numina is wrong because as I said, it is not 4th wall breaking if the characters are not aware of the 4th wall which is the screen between them and the player, they are not aware of the player's presence from another reality, and as I also said, I appreciate Numina, I'm just saying that its description is inaccurate. :-)
The grappling hook doesn't respond at the coastal tower so I can't climb it. I move Shawn under the step and the "!" appears but when I press Enter, nothing happens, the grappling hook doesn't respond to the command.
The game overall is great and is the best demo I have ever played but somehow I'm getting stuck as to where Masame said that "He said there was some kind of switch near the foot." I've been stuck for how many hours, figuring what to do so maybe you can help a player ou.
The game is done very well, graphic is beautiful and battle mechanics is interesting. But I think before the Crystal boss you should add a warning or some kind of...healing? to make sure the players dont go there and fight the boss at low hp (I was there and liked "Well I guess i will load my save file and heal my party" then I realised my last save is 20 minutes ago so I fought the boss anyway, struggled through first 5 minutes without notice the gimmick and somehow managed it) and in the last city (sorry I cant remember its name, my memory is kinda bad) there is a house let you rent room (inn?) still have German for the Yes/No choice. Keep on the great work :) I am looking forward chapter 2 very much and I hope more people will know about you and your work P.S:English is not my first language, so Im sorry if there is some errors.
Edit:I usually get error message "rgss player has stopped working" when I first played the game, after run the Game.exe in bin (in bin, not Launcher.exe) in compatibility mode Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and run as an administrator, it seems to be working fine now. My system is Windows 7 32-bit so I think it will work fine if you have this problem.
Thank you for your feedback! I should definitely add an autosave-point before that boss. Glad you kept on going even after losing some progress :)
Yeah that error is kinda tough and seems to have different causes. Luckily with the engine-switch in the upcoming release, it should no longer be a problem.
Sorry to hear that! Theoretically there is the possibility of releasing an Android-version with the switch to RPG Maker MV. But for the time being, I'm focusing on getting the Desktop release underway (Windows/Mac/Linux).
Hey there! Sorry for the late reply! I ported the game over to a newer engine. That bug will be fixed in the next release. Sorry for the inconvenience!
I love this game. The graphics are beautiful, the soundtrack is awesome, and the story is amazing. I can't wait till the full game comes out, you guys rock
Hi! I haven't finished the demo yet, but I HAD to pause the game for just long enough to get my thoughts down to you. Right off the bat, as I played the intro, I was thinking 'oh, good graphics' - and I've been holding onto that opinion solidly so far. The graphics and the mapping are gorgeous - I really love how dedicated you are to conveying a setting's specific vibe or feel, with all the extra efforts put into making it more realistic. Your visions, I feel, really translated well in-game, especially with regards to the Temple in general. The stained glass behind the altar and the signs of ruin really resonated.
There are a few lines of German dialogue that I feel slipped through, but they're not at all detractive, considering that this is still only a demo. I really like the fact that we as the spirit have the ability to choose our personality in a sense, and am eager to see what the consequences of us influencing Shawn are. I would have liked to see a they/them option for the spirit, actually. I'm also not sure if this is a bug or if it's just my game, but after the Temple explodes and you go back up to find Aura, there's a section where you can climb up a cliff using the grappling hook; one of the animals there seems to be stuck with a tree, blocking the path to the little glowy thing (and I should say I really love the glowy thing. It's like a beacon, and saves a lot of trouble searching). There's also a little bit of lagging in the fights after Sarah joins, but I can't say if that's just my laptop.
I'm not too far into the game yet, but I hope I shall be able to come back and give you more thoughts once I've finished the demo.
EDIT: The demo has been beat, lmao. Spoilers for any new readers, but GOD, do I really, really want Raphael to survive. He's grown on me very much over time despite being a simpler character than most of the cast we've seen so far. Something about those big buff do gooders with their hearts of gold, you know? I'm also rather interested in whether that last kid - the one that joins your fight against Aziel, whose name I seem to have forgotten despite reading it a solid ten minutes ago - is going to join the party for real, but that's neither here nor there. I do think that in the game to come, I hope that our interactions with Shawn can be measured in a counter of sorts - it would make it a little easier to keep track of any spirit-related skill upgrades, or just gauge the relationship you have with him at any point in time. It would also be nice to have a counter to track Shawn's relationships with each party member, even if it's not necessarily romantic - I feel like his friendship with Raphael could be explored beautifully, haha. I'm a bit of a friendship buff when it comes to adventuring parties.
Also another obligatory love letter to the GRAPHICS... so gorgeous and so so so contributive to the atmosphere. The love and effort you put into the game is really fantastically visible. Thank you so much. I really can't wait for the full release.
Hey there! Wow, thank you very much for taking your time to leave a comment on here :) Really appeciate it! I'm happy that you resonate with Raphael, he was the last character for the main cast I came up with and it was clear from the beginning that he'll have to play some central role in driving the story. But it was a long journey to this iteration.
The bonds between the party members is a bigger focus for the upcoming chapter! If you liked this one, you'll love what's to come :) I also already added a sort of "Heart"-meter like you mentioned to get a rough feel on how your companions feel about Shawn.
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts! I hope you stick around for the next release!
hey starlit! just recently tried the game and im in love! great graphics, beautiful art and details and love the dramatic musical touch. cant wait to see whats next:)

thanks for asnwering!, i did tryed at every moment, i even pressed the button to climb one time after another so i wouldnt miss anything but still.

Oh happy that the issue resolved itself, haha! Hope you enjoy the rest of the game! :)
Welp, imma play through this again.
Keep up the great work! : )
Oh yeah, also, what software are you using to make this?
Thank you! The last demo was created using RPG Maker XP but since then I've switched over to RPG Maker MV.
If I wanted to get into making RPG's in this style what softwarewould you recommend to a beginner?
Yeah definitely! There's a lot that the program handles for you and especially MV allows you to also get in deeper with Scripting.
Ok! Ill have to check it out, thanks again!

Yeah I love experimenting around with effects like the particles, so thanks for noticing!

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
I make an effort to respond to every comment, but I just didn't know how to reply 😂 Thank you very much!
I know the perfect way to reply to my comment:
Step 1. Shut up.
Step 2. Take my money.
It's so good, keep up the good work! I'm so glad I found a website with quality indie creations!

The game is amazing! And I really like the concept of it
Some choices are so hilarious that I couldn't help but choose it
Though when I went inside the temple (not sure what the name is because it's a bit hard to spell). The language is in German and that's pretty neat?
Welllllll, I couldn't read it though xD
Love the game and can't wait for more
Thanks so much! :D Yeah, I wanted to include some funny choices and possible banter between the player and Shawn to lighten things up.
I'll try to fix all the translation errors in the upcoming release! Promised! >_<
Ahh! I wish you best of luck on your work :D

Hey there! Thank you so much :)
The game actually went through Steam Greenlight back when it was still active. So a Steam release is coming, once I finish the upcoming release :)
This game demo surprised me, in a good way.

Hi! Thanks for the compliments, happy you like the story :)
Make sure to move towards the well first and then proceed to the lower part. You can only move when the guards are not looking. Hope this helps!
Okay I will give it a go. Thank you.
Hello! I'm enjoying the demo so far. However, I think that I've encountered a bug: right after I've acquired Glintshard I lost the ability to use magic. The bar with magic resource disappeared and thus, the ability to use any skills except normal attacks and inspect/taunt.
Hey there! Happy you enjoyed it thus far and thanks for the bug report! :)
i played the game before and got really far, sadly it seems that i lost my save files but thing is when i downloaded the new update one now and have to see the beginning part, it freezes and doesn't move when this person in a cloak comes out, the game just stops working, i did wait for like ten minutes leaving it alone but still nothing. i am wondering if i did press spacebar to much or to fast, or if the game just likes to take it's time in going to next part.
Keep up the good work!! 10/10 ^-^
Hey! Thank you very much for your comment! I hope you'll enjoy the rest of the demo as well :)
Actually another commenter pointed that out. I'm thinking about it since it is interesting indeed! :D
Im currently stuck with my PC which runs 32-bit system, so if youre going to port it into new engine, will it still run on 32-bit system? Or I need 64-bit system for the upcomming chapter?
As long as you're running Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 there should be no problems regarding 32bit.
Cassandra's arrows' name and description are written in german.
Thanks for the reports! Very sorry about the inconvenience :I I'm working hard on the next release with all the known bugs fixed.
To escape battles crashes the game, there must be an error in the escape command.
The dialogue triggered when I make Shawn interact with the Caleum's Ecclesia's altar is written in german.
The dialogue into the secret treasure room is also in german.
Now don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, I like Numina, I just wanted to explain to you that the way you present it is wrong and so suggest to you to correct it accordingly if you want to be fair. ;-)
Please include a spoiler warning in your comment.
Ah yes, I forgot to mention it. Some dialogues skip themselves on their own and I don't have the time to read them.
Go left from the statue Masame said , there is another statue and next to it is a tile which is little broken, check that statue and you'll be fine
you are literally a life saviour. THANK YOU FOR THE HELPPP!
Keep on the great work :) I am looking forward chapter 2 very much and I hope more people will know about you and your work
P.S:English is not my first language, so Im sorry if there is some errors.
I played this on pc and greatly enjoyed it, sadly my pc has passed on. Soooo, are there any chances you can put it on Android? Just asking tho
Sorry to hear that! Theoretically there is the possibility of releasing an Android-version with the switch to RPG Maker MV. But for the time being, I'm focusing on getting the Desktop release underway (Windows/Mac/Linux).
good work no great work btw my name was the great wolf made me smile like in undertale never seen a game like that
I'm sure there are some funny situations that can arise out of picking names like that :D Glad you enjoyed it!
Ahh, I was so sad when I got to the end of the demo. I honestly didn't expect to love this game so much but I do can not wait for the whole thing!
Happy that you enjoyed it :) Working hard on making the upcoming release of the 2nd chapter live up to the first one!
Hello?~ I need to report about Battle Escape Error
Hey there! Sorry for the late reply! I ported the game over to a newer engine. That bug will be fixed in the next release. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Thank you~ I glad to hear and I'm so excitement for the next release!!~ \(^ //// ^)/
I love this game. The graphics are beautiful, the soundtrack is awesome, and the story is amazing. I can't wait till the full game comes out, you guys rock
Thank you so much! :) Happy to hear that you enjoyed the game
Hello starlit, if your not busy I would you to join a private project working for free as a GFX artist or even a coder.
Hey there! Thank you for the offer but I can't take on any additional work right now.
No problem! :)
LOVE THE GAME!! keep up the good work guys
Thanks so much!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment :) Happy you enjoyed the demo!
